Located on a steep slope in West Seattle this project presented a multitude of design challenges. The building lot was 28’ wide and was flanked on two sides by busy streets. Although the southern façade is normally the desirable façade for daylighting and energy conservation here the south façade faced a very noisy and busy intersection. Also, the views of downtown Seattle were in the Northeast direction.

To lesson any issues with noise the decision was made to concentrate most of the glazing in the northeast corner of the taking full advantage of the views of Seattle and the eastern sunrise. The concentration of glazing in the northeast corner also gives the home a desired and contemporary 'solid-void' appearance,

the exterior is skinned in a combination of custom-designed Galvilum panels which give a nice contrast to the very warm, rough sawn cedar, rain-screen siding.
